Pretty Pastels

There’s no denying that bold and rich saturated gemstone shades and neons are still the dominating trends right now, but the preferred color-wheel is slowly shifting toward pretty pastel hues. The paler candy-colored options have been cropping up in tops, dresses, skirts, accessories, and more for the spring and summer seasons.

Mint green, soft yellow, cotton-candy pink, light lavender, and baby blue hues exude femininity and daintiness so it’s no wonder that stores are stocking their shelves with the ladylike looks.

Perhaps, Easter will help usher in the pretty, sherbet-like picks.

Beyoncé Launches Tumblr Page

Who needs the paparazzi when stars share personal snapshots for the public to view? Thanks to Twitter and Tumblr, some of our favorite celebrities have been giving fans a glimpse into their glamorous lives via photos on social networking sites.

Now, the typically super private, Beyoncé Knowles, is the latest star to showcase her intimate moments. That’s right, the Queen Bee has finally decided to join the digital age with  the launch of her special Tumblr page in conjunction with Beyonce.com. The site currently features incredibly artistic photos of her lounging with her sister Solange, canoodling with her hubby Jay-Z, and more.

In a message to fans, she writes, “it’s been a long time coming – but I finally have my own place on the web.”

Sneak Peek: “Sparkle” Trailer Featuring Whitney Houston

This morning Today exclusively revealed the first sneak peek of the much-anticipated Sparkle movie. Scheduled to be released in theaters August 17, the remake of the 1976 film is directed by Mara Brock and Salim Akil (creators of The Game) and stars the late Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, Derek Luke, and Mike Epps.

It’s super easy to do and it’s a refreshing change from my usual topknot or two-strand twists. I’ve also simplified my daily makeup application. For a few weeks I’ve been using tinted moisturizers with SPF 30 instead of concealers or foundation. Admittedly, I can only do this because I’m not currently suffering from any discolorations or hyper-pigmentation.

 Beyoncé stepped out yesterday in New York City donning a fitted neon pink tee paired with a pretty, floor-skimming print maxi skirt. While some may think the new mom may have gone a bit color overboard with her get-up, but I’m personally OBSESSED with this look!

Partying for a Cause with Petals-N-Belles

We BGs know that the only way to move forward in life is to give back. That’s why I was so excited to attend the Petals-N-Belles’ Limitless 2012 one-year anniversary event at Greenhouse here in New York City earlier this week. Founded by Damali Elliott last year, Petals-n-Belles is a New York-based mentoring  organization created to empower and inspire young girls.

Hosted by 106 & Park TV personality, Rocsi Diaz, the fabulous fundraiser was co-chaired by ESSENCE’s Editor-at-Large, Emil Wilbekin and social media maven and founder of Dinner with Bevy, LLC, Bevy Smith. With over 300 attendees, Petals-N-Belles raised over $10,000 to help support its spring and summer mentorship programs.

Not only did guests give back, but they also mingled and partied to the tunes of DJ Kiss. Plus, some of the mentees were present and spoke positively about the powerful influence of Petals-n-Belles. Having only been established for a year, Elliott is well on her way to improving and impacting the lives of countless young girls one mentee at a time.

Remember last year when I went to the Emmy’s on behalf of Galderma? Well, in between soaking up the sun and stargazing in L.A, I had the pleasure of speaking with celebrity dermatologist Dr. Deborah Luftman about how rosacea affects us BGs and guys. Although we aren’t as susceptible to the skincare ailment as our fairer-skinned counterparts, some of us do suffer from the condition.
