Get Beyonce’s Glow

Did you catch our favorite BG mom-to-be, Beyoncé, on Friday’s episode of 20/20? If not, you missed her dishing about how she’s curbing her pregnancy cravings and why she’s keeping her due date secret. While her growing bump was the focus of the interview, the singer’s glowing skin stole the show.

Famed makeup artist, Mally Roncal “beat” Beyoncé’s face into perfection with the beauty essentials found in her “My Favorite Things Collection,” ($59.50) which will be available December 9th on QVC.

Since Mally is busy building her makeup empire and beautifying R&B beauties like Beyoncé’, she can’t personally give us that flawless, camera-ready look, but she can share her tips (see below). Plus, all of the products she used are complementary to all skin tones so you can recreate the makeup magic in the comfort of your home.

Check out Mally’s simple steps:

Start by using my concealer to brighten under the eyes or any other place that needs help.

Next, use my subtle highlighter and contour powder to really bring out your inner beauty! The highlighter lifts the face and even illuminates the eye area. The contour powder instantly makes you look like you lost five pounds.

For eyes, I opted for my creamy, shimmery eye shadow, bulletproof Eyeliner and my secret: Volumizing Mascara.

To create glossy, Beyoncé worthy lips, I used my High Shine Liquid Lipstick.

ONE LUCKY READER will win the kit ($59.50 value) before its debut. Simply leave a comment telling me if you’re going to incorporate shimmer into your holiday looks this season and a winner will be randomly selected and announced on Thursday.

Get Glowing Skin with a Neutrogena Microdermabrasion System Giveaway

If you’re looking for a microdermabrasion system that will leave your skin smooth and radiant without breaking the bank, Neutrogena has the product for you. Their microbrasion system is comparable to the pricier ones by Clarisonic and Olay, but is considerably more affordable.

I know you’re thinking, but does it work as well as some of the others on the market? Yes, the kit comes with a one-month supply of easy-to-apply cleansing puffs that sloughs away, dead skin cells leaving behind a rejuvenated surface. After using it for a week, I saw immediate results.

Since I’m a huge fan of the Clarisonic brand too, the only downside of the Neutrogena one is that it’s battery-operated unlike the Clarisonic that comes with a charger. Other than that, I find it to be a great buy especially for the price!

Available at www.drugstore.com for $19.99

Have you tried the Neutrogena Microbrasion System? If not, you can win one simply by leaving a comment. A winner will be randomly selected and announced later this week.

Beauty Bits

I know Sephora makes many of us BGs feel like a kid in a candy store, that’s why you can’t miss out on their Friends & Family online discount that ends on November, 2nd. Happy Shopping!

In other beauty news, Nicki Minaj, with her colorful getups and outrageous costumes is taking her penchant for eye-catching flair to nail polishes. The avant-garde rapper, who also happens to be the most sought-after Halloween costume this year, is teaming up with the super nail polish giant OPI for a limited edition 6 polish shade line launching at the top of the new year.

The names of her exclusive polishes are named after her hit songs, “Super Bass,” “4 Life,” “Did It on ‘Em,” “Fly,” and “Save Me.”

Since Nicki Minaj is fearless when it comes to both fashion and beauty, I’m sure it won’t be long before she launches her own line of beauty products. Will you be buying?

Carol’s Daughter Launches New Smoothing Collection

Just when you thought Carol’s Daughter couldn’t possibly get any better, founder Lisa Price, proves that there’s no plateauing in sight. Her latest concoction, Chocolat Smoothing Collection, claims to keep strands soft and smooth without altering one’s natural curl pattern.

For example, since I have non-chemically treated hair, but use a flat iron to periodically straighten, this product would be ideal. It’s supposed to keep the dreaded “poof” and frizzies at bay even in high humidity.

Since I just received the samples at the launch last night, I have yet to try the 3-step system (shampoo, blow dry cream, and conditioner), I plan to try it soon so please stay tuned for my review.

Oh, in case you’re wondering if the products smell like chocolate, they don’t – thank goodness. The name actually comes from a blend of cacao extracts.

Available at www.carolsdaughter.com for $54 (a $60 value)

Would you try this new smoothing system? What products do you use to keep your hair frizz-free?

What’s in Your Makeup Bag?

Don’t let the title of the post mislead you. I’m talking about the nasty oils and bacteria that can accumulate on or in your make-up and make-up tools. Everything has an expiration date and makeup is no different. If you’re not careful, you can cause some serious damage to your skin. One of the quickest culprits to cause an infection such as pink eye is mascara. Although you may see many people pumping the wand inside their mascara bottle repeatedly, experts agree that this action immediately causes air to push bacteria back inside the tube.

Of course when applying your make-up, be sure your hands, brushes or sponges are clean to avoid skin outbreaks. Here are some general expiration guidelines:

Liquid Foundation: 3-6 months (Cream foundation can last 4-6 months)

Foundation in a bottle should last 3-6 months, but wide mouthed jars can expose the product to more air and should be tossed sooner. When the ingredients begin to settle or separate, the texture thickens or thins, or the smell changes, it’s time to throw it away.

Concealer: 6-8 months

Powders: 1 year

Mascara: 3 months

Lip gloss & Lipstick: 1 year

Are you guilty of trying to hold on to your favorite make-up products past their expiration date? If so, which products do you try to make last the longest?

Get Funky With It

Watch out Carol, there’s another ‘daughter’ taking on all-natural hair care.

Uncle Funky’s Daughter is a husband and wife line based in Houston that caters to curly hair textures. Although, the brand was founded in 2003, I only heard of it a few months ago. First the name caught my attention and then the packaging bearing a woman rocking an Afro sealed the deal. I knew I had to try a product from this eye-catching line.

Since I suffer from extremely dry, flakey scalp I was excited to try the brand’s moisturizer, Shining Star. Made with natural jojoba and soybean oil, this pleasantly-scented concoction quenched my hair’s ‘thirst’ like no other product I’ve tried this year. It’s lightweight, yet non-greasy formula coated my hair and scalp leaving it shiny without the weight where many other moisturizers fail.

While I’m still a huge fan of Carol’s Daughter, I’m making room in my beauty shelf for one more child who will bring on that funk!

Have you tried Uncle Funky’s Daughter products? If you would like to try the Shining Star ($16 value) moisturizer, simply leave a comment and the winner will be randomly selected and announced next week.

**The winner of the Essie polish is Ladybug! Congrats and please send me your mailing address.
