BGG Celebrates 5-Year Anniversary!

Five years ago, the White House had yet to be historically revolutionized, I was 3 years shy of motherhood, and Twitter was still in its early stages of taking over the way in which we communicate. Yep, a lot has changed since 2007!

That’s why for my 5-year blogoversary, I thought that I should follow suit and celebrate this milestone with a much-needed BGG facelift.

I can’t believe it’s been half a decade since my husband convinced me to create my own editorial outlet. Prior to starting BGG, I wasn’t aware of many blogs that catered to everything that I loved: beauty, style, hair, celebrity photos, interviews, health/fitness, and entertainment. At the time, most of them focused strictly on either beauty, hair, fashion or celebrity. Hence, BGG was launched!

Since then, you guys (special shout-out to T, Sherita, Miss Mika, Shawnta, Antithesis, Kittyvodka and Kwana, a few of my BGG VIPs) have been with me through my pregnancy, bronzer obsession, and more!

I hope that you’ll join me as I embark upon this new chapter for BGG!

P.S I’m still working out the site kinks so please bear with me. 🙂

Thanks so much for reading,

Karla aka BGG

Cute Ways to Store Your Jewelry

I don’t know about you, but my jewelry box is an embarrassing mess! It’s time for me to clear out the clutter and rediscover a few of my “lost” treasures by properly stashing and storing my rings, necklaces, and of course beloved hoops.

Blast from the Past Post: Taking it to the Max!

Originally published: June 2, 2008

This season the maxi dress is the perfect piece to add to your summer wardrobe. The popular, Grecian-like style can be worn on cool days at the beach; or if paired with the right accessories can even be ideal for  fun date nights out on the town!

Plus, these fabulous, free-flowing frocks can create long & lean silhouettes, which I’m sure many BGs can appreciate. Who doesn’t want to look chic and elongated?

I haven’t actually bought one of these dresses yet, but I know that I’ll eventually get one before the summer is over.

Will you wear a maxi dress this summer?

Let’s Celebrate!

As many of you know, I’m a huge Oprah fan. Even my 2-year-old daughter says, “Mommy watching Obrah?” whenever I turn on the TV. That said, I was glued to the tube during her Lifeclass series; I was even lucky enough to watch the show live during her tour stop here in New York last month.

During one particular episode she and life adviser Tony Robbins touched on the importance of celebrating. They said that far too often we don’t take the time to savor and appreciate precious life moments even if they aren’t grand occasions or huge milestones.

Ever since that “Aha” moment, I decided that I’d take heed and revel more in life’s successes with my friends and family. So today, which happens to be my birthday I plan to live it up even if that means just going out to dinner with my sister, hubby, and daughter.

Life is a gift, why not celebrate it?

My dear friend, Cocoa Popps gave me this lovely birthday card. You guys know that I’m such a sucker  for cute stationery!

Do you have any celebrations coming up?

5 Things to Be Thankful for This Year

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is next week! Where did the year go? While I’m truly thankful for the many blessings that I’ve received in addition to the most important (health, family, a job, and shelter) this year, I also thought of a light-hearted list of a few things that we BGs should also be thankful for in 2011.

Here’s the list in no particular order:

1. Beyonce showing the world that she’s pregnant on the MTV Awards. Thanks to the Queen Bee, we didn’t have to suffer through all of the endless speculation of “is she” or “isn’t she?” But, apparently a some people STILL couldn’t believe that the bootylicious star was bearing a child.

2. Reed Between the Lines airing on BET. We all have our favorite girlfriend back on the air! Plus, it’s a positive show that shows that we have successful careers, loving spouses and families just like everybody else.

3. Carol’s Daughter launch of Chocolat Smoothing System. When it comes to products for us curly, coily, kinky and even chemically-straightened hair, Carol’s Daughter reigns supreme. The new Chocolat system effortlessly tames frizzies for when we want to flaunt a sleek style.

4. Queen Latifah’s clothing launch. We all know that the actress/singer/rapper is the Queen of all trades, but we’re so happy that she’s adding fashion to her burgeoning repertoire. From a size 2 to a 24, Latifah’s line accommodates women of most sizes.

5. Oprah’s Lifeclass. I don’t know about you, but I was glued to the tube every night to learn a lesson from the former talk show host. Each of the shows were so enlightening and inspiring that I even watched most of them live (I hardly ever watch shows that aren’t DVR’d)! I am counting down the days for its return in the spring.

What in pop culture, beauty or fashion are you thankful for this year?

BGG Chats with Queen Latifah

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with Queen Latifah. The incredibly humble and down-to-earth entertainer was an absolute delight. Check out my piece here on Parade.com.

Are you a fan of Queen Latifah’s? If so, what’s your favorite Queen Latifah movie, etc.?
