Fail-Proof Fashions!

We BGs love dressing up and looking as pretty as possible, but let’s admit, sometimes our ensembles just don’t quite come together the way in which we’d like. That’s why it’s important to have that one or two absolute fail-proof outfit(s) for those days when we know we’ll feel confident and look our best no matter what.

This summer, my fail-proof outfit was a wrinkle-free red, cotton mini dress. It was summery and a bit playful, but could easily be transformed into a more conservative look with a light-weight sweater. I mix and matched it with various accessories and shoes – it was really a great find, plus it was only $23!

I took this photo back in June when my friend AZ came to visit.

Here are a few of my other favorite fail-proof pieces. Hey, bet on black!

Basic Tee – Black (or white) tank available at www.forever21.com for $6.99

Skinny Jeans – J Brand Jeans available at www.shopbop.com for $161

Little Black Dress – Sonia Dress available at www.guess.com

  1. I love your dress! simple yet so cute. the color is great!

  2. How cute do you look, BGG? I love that dress! I am still in love with skinny jeans.

  3. a purple bubble dress….i wear it in winter/fall with a black tight long sleeve tee underneath with black leggings and black suede boots and a colorful, long, thin scarf…summer/spring, i can wear it alone or with a tank underneath with gladiators or flip flops…LOVES IT!!

  4. I have a black strapless cotton A-line dress (from Old Navy actually). It’s so versatile. I can dress it up or down. That dress has been to more graduations, weddings and funerals than my favorite pair of black pumps.

    Amazing!

  5. That color is gorgeous on you… it really brings out your complexion.

  6. Oh that dress was very beautiful. It definitely was the right touch to your minimalist yet stylish look. You don’t always need to pile on the bangles, belts and accessories to look great as shown by BGG in the red dress… There is definitely a lot of beauty in simplicity! Lookin’ great as usual BGG!

  7. you look so cute in the photo! i think any dress i have is pretty much fail-proof. outside of that, i have a few go-to blouses that match well with just about any bottoms in my closet.

  8. oh i love that dress on u! my fallback piece is a thin, long sleeved black v-neck that i got from target when i was trying to be a mime for halloween, lol…since then i wear it with a white wife beater underneath…under dresses…to work…i can’t believe how fabulous it is!

the little (cotton) black dress is fail proof because i can wear it with flip flops during the day and with heels and chunky accessories at night. the only thing it fails at is for lying around in the sun!

  10. BGG, aren’t you a cutie in your red dress! I have several outfits that always seem to work for me no matter the occasion. I happen to be sporting one today. Although it’s denim, it’s very professional with my high heels, hair pulled back and diamond posts. After work I will bust out my flip flops turn the bun into a pony tail and whip out my hoop earrings. Don’t bother telling me I’m not fabulous…I won’t believe you! HA!

  11. Call it essentials. I love Sonia dress.

  12. I a nice pair of blue jeans, a nice top (whether its a blouse or a t-shirt) and a pair of boots. Its very casual and still seen as stylish at the same time.

  13. Great post. I love your outfit! I guess mine for this summer was a great fitting pair of jeans and an embroider Calvin Klein top that hid lots of flaws.

  14. Cute dress!

    I don’t have any fail-proof outfits, but it’s a great idea!

  15. I love a black dress, in fact I may have too many of them but they never fail. Also a great pair of jeans, as long as the fit is great that is perfect. I need some wide leg pants for the Fall.
    YAY for fashion. Great post

  16. Effortless and Chic 🙂

  17. Love the dress. I love red. I always have red shoes and a red bag. My must have in my closet are black slacks with cuffs and without (flat front always)and with and without belt loops. I also love to have a variety of cami’s..

  18. nice pic

  19. Nice pic, Browngirl. So fresh and innocent looking. On another note I am going to have to check out the book you have listed – Brother I’m Dying.
