With Thanksgiving only one week away, it’s time to pull out your tried and true recipes for the festive family feast! I am by no means a great cook, but I will be making my tasty and traditional dish – green bean casserole. I had never tasted the dish or even heard of it prior to a visit to my mother-in-law’s house a few years ago. Every year since then I’ve prepared it for Thanksgiving and so far there are never any leftovers so I must be doing something right!

What delicious dish(es) are you looking forward to eating next week! Do you help cook Thanksgiving dinner?
BGG,
Me cook? (Lol) Nope, as much as I fantasize about being a good cook, the sad truth is I can barely handle spaghetti.
I’ll be eating a store bought Thanksgiving dinner.
I don’t like traditional Thanksgiving food. Turkey is too birdy, loathe stuffing, can’t bear the smell of sweet potato pie, blah, blah, blah.
So not sure what’s for dinner? Probably pizza. Yum!
My amily is weird. We don’t do Turkey, we do Pernil (which is pork shoulder in spanish). With some rice and beans, we’re good! lol
I’ve never had green bean casserole. Imagine that!! My special? Sweet potato souflee. It’s amaziiiing. I’ve made sure that I burned enough calories this week so I can afford to eat up next week!
I look forward to three things this time of year – macaroni and cheese, dressing, and canned cranberry sauce! I too am hitting the gym extra tough so that I can overindulge over the next few weeks. Gobble, gobble baby!
I can finally participate in cooking Thanksgiving dinner! I became a good cook once I got married. I’m looking forward to eating macaroni and cheese, sweet potato souffle, and honey baked ham. I’ll cook the macaroni and cheese and maybe a cake. I can’t wait. I don’t exercise 🙁 so hopefully the pounds will shed.
BGG, I’m not a cook either but I do have a few meals that I take serious pride in. One happens to be cornish hens. I don’t like turkey much so next week we’ll have cornish hens & dressing, mac & cheese and I was going to make my amazing but simple green beans but now I’m going to try the caserole. Thanks for the recipe!
MAC & CHEESE!!!! Sweet potatoes, I love cranberry sauce too… rice & gravy, turkey of course, a good ham, I could go on & on, lol
@DE I looooooooooove pernil!!! My stepmom is Puerto Rican and she makes it really good too
the first time i had it, i thought i’d hate green bean casserole, but its so yummy! i usually make a salad and the dressing for thanxgiving…i don’t like to mess with the staples like mac-n-cheese, sweet potato souffle or greens. i leave them for the pros!
I don’t cook, but I am excited to have some Sweet Potatoe Pie, Macaroni & Cheese, Tuna Salad, Potatoe Salad, Butter Rolls Macaroni Salad, etc. Thanksgiving and Christmas always bring the best food!
my mom makes that too! i’ll be making that this year as well…this year it’s just me and my boyfriend and i’m cooking everything! yikes!
i can look forward to eating the food all day long but i would not enjoy preparing it which is what i think i will have to do this year. i dont wanna…
You know I’m a pretty good cook but I alway hand Thanksgiving over my my Nana and this year I’m heading to Savannah and the hubby’s family. I think I’ll pick up some pies from Harlem and bring those.
The desserts! I enjoy pumpkin pie and my sister’s home-made cheesecake. This year I’ll be trying some new recipes that I saw in Family Circle magazine.
I do a lil’ something, something. LOL! I ALWAYS make the macaroni and cheese let me tell you BGs, I kill it everytime. It’s to the point that folks ask me to make it for ALL the holidays. I have to tell ’em, MY M&C is not back-yard-bbq food. Please recognize.
LOL!
This year I learned how to make mashed sweet potatoes too, so I’m going to see if my mom will let me make those. Other than that I just help, picking greens, cutting veggies for the dressing, peeling and or washing things as necessary.
Great topic!!!
I’ve only made thanksgiving dinner once. I decided to stay home with my boyfriend and skip the family dinner. Instead of a whole turkey I made stuffed turkey meatloaf with rice and beans. For dessert, red velvet cake (that I bought of course) I can’t wait to do it again it was so much more fun than a giant family dinner.
i rule at mashed potatoes.
Me? I’m eating a ham sandwich cuz the next day I’ll be in Ft. Lauderdale and on my way to the caribbean for a 7 day cruise!
i will be eating everything at the table
Hmm…….. cook? Nooooo, lol! I love my mom’s stuffing! She pretty much cooks once a year, so I look forward to it!! I like to mix it with her famous sweet potato pie and create a song and dance in my mouth 🙂 BGG much love!!
Oh, I love my mom’s baked macaroni & cheese too! I just wish it could be Thanksgiving everyday! LOL
*gulp* i’ve decided to spend t-day away from home… not sure if i made the right decision =(
